As a new mom I had many emotions regarding someone else caring for my new baby. From the minute we stepped into Amy’s Sonshine Place to interview Amy and visit the daycare, I knew this was the place for our newborn. Now, eight years later, I can assure you there is no one else I would entrust with caring for my children. As an educator myself, I know how critical daycare providers are in the development of young children and Amy has exceeded every expectation. Amy fills the kids' days with developmentally appropriate crafts, sensory bins, games, free play, books, dancing, puzzles, and more. She teaches the children how to be kind, use helping hands, and have listening ears. Amy is gentle with the children as evident by the way she reminds them to use helping hands or listening ears and the way she continues to love them and give them great big hugs even if my child has had a particularly difficult day following directions. Amy has cared for all three of our children and they, like my husband and I, absolutely adore her. My oldest, who is now in elementary school, still begs to go visit her. In my opinion, a daycare provider should be an extension of you as they end up spending more waking hours with your child than you do and Amy is exactly that! I remember looking for someone to care for my child while I worked. It is an overwhelming task. It feels like no one can love or care for your child like you can. When we found Amy, she immediately put our hearts at ease. Our 3 boys begged to go to her house, even on weekends! She nurtured them, cared for them and loved them. She often knew if they were sick or upset before even we did. She learned to read their moods and their struggles and loved them through each one of them. She taught us how to be parents too! As we navigated our individual child’s victories and struggles, we learned to be better parents ourselves. "My husband and I don’t really know where to begin in our praise for Amy’s Sonshine Place…. My daughter went into Amy’s care at 11 weeks old. She is now 4 and we have never questioned our decision. We knew when we met Amy and Eric it was the “right” fit. Amy has an obvious passion and gift for her work with children. To say that Amy is tuned into the children and babies in her care would be an understatement. When my daughter was about 6 months old, I went to pick her up and Amy told me: "Olivia just hasn't been herself today, not crying or fussy, just not herself.” Amy went on to let me know she had repeatedly checked all the usual suspects that make a baby unhappy to no avail. That night Olivia spiked a pretty high temp and popped two teeth! I was humbled that the person caring for my baby was so tuned in; she just knew something wasn’t right. Our praise of Amy’s Sonshine Place is multi-faceted. We have treasured the home and family environment. Amy has worked very hard to make her home very “kid friendly.” It is obvious that the children feel at home in her home. Amy has placed a high value on teaching good character not only through modeling loving and kind behaviors, but expecting it in the children in her care through consistent and clear rules. We have loved the preschool curriculum Amy has instituted. The kids are always doing something fun to reinforce a new concept, be it through books, crafts, or a nature walk! Amy goes above and beyond for the children in her care. Families entrust Amy with their most precious and Amy has always shown she is acutely aware of that trust. "We absolutely love Ms. Amy's Sonshine Place. Our daughter has been there for over a year, and we only have the best words to describe the place. Not only that our daughter enjoys being with Ms. Amy and the kids, but she has also learned a lot over there. She has learned English language, colors, shapes, numbers, letters etc. One of the things we especially appreciate is that she has also learned how to eat vegetables.
